I am running for re-election to the Capistrano Unified School Board because our students, families, and taxpayers deserve experienced leadership dedicated to a top tier preK-12 public education that optimizes opportunities for each student, fosters engaged citizens, and builds a skilled workforce for tomorrow.
As an involved parent of two CUSD graduates, I witnessed firsthand the positive impact a quality public education offered my sons, their fellow students, and our communities' common good.
As a School Board Trustee, I care deeply about every child and have a proven record of focusing on the needs of all students while conserving and carefully spending our precious resources. I listen to parents and have fought against external challenges and difficulties that continue to threaten the success of our students, schools, and the health of our communities.
As a small business owner, I understand the importance of sound budgeting and prudent fiscal policies and despite the fiscal challenges created by Sacramento, I will continue to work to provide our children with the maximum educational opportunities so that they may successfully pursue their college and career goals.
Although we live in challenging times, our children deserve what we enjoyed - quality preK-12 public education that provides unlimited opportunities to excel in a supportive stable environment. I will do my best to continue to foster an environment of excellence in all areas of public education and remain committed to our children so that they may become the leaders, innovators, and good neighbors our communities expect.
"At the heart of it all, members of a district's board of education must believe, unequivocally, in the value of public education. They must be dedicated to serving and teaching all children. They must believe in the democratic process and understand that their role is to act strategically, in line with the interests of the entire school community"
I am originally from Tucson, Arizona and attended the University of Arizona concentrating in Business and Public Administration. After moving to Southern California, I continued my business studies transitioning into positions with DeLorean Motor Company and Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America. Entrepreneurs by nature, my husband David and I became one of the first pioneers in the custom closet industry and have since launched several other successful small businesses both together and separately.
As a non native, I am extremely appreciative and grateful for the opportunity to live along the beautiful Southern California coast. We have owned property in the Capistrano Beach area for almost 40 years and are the proud parents of two sons who attended Capistrano Unified Schools from Kindergarten to graduation. John holds an undergraduate degree in International Political Science from UC San Diego and a Masters in Communication, Culture & Technology from Georgetown University. Joe holds a degree in Manufacturing Engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and both sons embodied my passion for the ocean by playing water polo, swimming competitively, and working as California State Lifeguards through High School and College. With two recent marriages, I am now a proud mother-in-law!
I was fully committed to my son's schools and proudly spent countless hours of volunteerism both inside and outside the classroom. I cherished my time as a room parent, Carnival Chair, Library aide, and High School PTSA President. My community encouraged me to run as their area representative on the Board of Trustees for the Capistrano Unified School District first in 2012, and with their support and belief in me, I have retained my seat. I have always viewed my position as an extension of community service and as a servant leader to the young people and to the communities in which they reside.
I also serve as a board member for College and Career Advantage (formerly South Coast ROP) providing relevant cutting edge career technical education and college/career pathways for High School students and adults. During my time, CCA courses and opportunities have have grown (CUSD is currently the only school district in California that offers Surgical Tech!) and CTE is now in every Elementary School with ICan Investigation Labs and Middle School Innovation Labs.
I remain steadfast in my commitment to enhancing the strength of our schools, promoting continued growth in student opportunities, securing the health and welfare for all students and safeguarding our investments in our homes and neighborhoods. I would be humbled and honored to be able to continue this work.
